"Looking Beyond the License Plate" is a national award program that recognizes law enforcement officers whose observations of license plates lead to an arrest or the solving of a crime. The deadline for this year's entries is June 3, 2003.

The program is soliciting case histories that show the importance of license plates as effective crime-fighting tools.

Chairman of the IACP Highway Safety Committee Earl M. Sweeney noted, "This award program validates and promotes the dedication and initiative of officers whose daily efforts ensure the effectiveness of our nation's law enforcement system."

The Grand Prize is an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2003 IACP annual meeting in Philadelphia, Penn., Oct. 21-23. There is no limit to the number of entries an officer or law enforcement agency can submit to the program by the deadline.
