Another "Good Samaritan" story reminds us that they are a lot of "good" people out there that do support LEOS's - and will assist if necessary. They are also the "silent majority". The majority of our contacts as LEO's are negative contacts, which many times taints our attitudes towards the public. The suspect in this encounter is lucky that he only got TAZED! His choice of a knife to attack the officer could have been met with deadly fatal force!

I salute them for saving the offficer life! But it's too bad they didn't have the means to keep the suspect from hurting anyone ever again!

Bless the brave citizens! I'm a retired police officer and more then once a good samaritan came to my aid. Thankfully our great country is still filled with amazing heros like the two gentlemen that came to her aid!

Great information. Hopefully, the three counts of attempted murder can stick. It would be great to see SDPD formally recognize the two citizens.

As a retiree with 33 years of service in the NYPD, I continue to be inspired by the willingness of the citizenry to support and protect their LEO in their time of need. They represent the true majorityof the population that we are willing to serve and protect. They show their respect with action rather than words. Than you good citizens.

Has the PD checked the legal status of the Gonzales? I would have Glocked him and saved the tax payers a lot of money...... I am glad to see citizens coming to our aid,With their help we can take back our streets.

Thank god the officer is ok but this was definitely a deadly force situation and this knucklehead should have been dealt with accordingly. It is unfortunate but not everything about police work is a pretty and regardless we need to back our officers and stop the folding and backstabbing to political pressure. If they want to second guess every action and its so easy for them let them do the job. It is only becoming more violent and hope more agencies will start utilizing two officer units which is by far safer and need in this violent times.

As an SO I have had similar situations without the resources of private citizens. I wish I had and commend them for getting involved in a very dangerous situation. I also commend the LEO for using secondary non lethal force on the suspect. No one would have faltered her for using deadly force though. KUDOs to all involved

Capt David @ 8/20/2011 5:55 AM

Let's see if I understand this. This guy is stabbing all three of them and the officer shoots him with her Tazer. Did her dept not issue her a firearm? Using a Tazer instead of deadly force on a knife attacking suspect is stupid..

David @ 8/22/2011 5:27 PM

It is good no one was seriously injured, however the question should be raised why the officer deployed a less-lethal weapon against a knife. I just finished another article discussing how some officers are unwilling to take a life even when it is justified. This may have been one of those circumstances where it could have ended with a death because the officer did not respond to deadly force with deadly force.

Randy @ 8/25/2011 10:57 AM

Before everyone questions the officer for not using dealy force, which obviously would be justified, maybe she should be aplauded. We do not have the entire story. Could she have safely shot her weapon with two good samaritans struggling with him as well? Maybe she really is smart and used less lethal to protect all involved. Good job to all invloved and God bless every LEO in this risky job.

thank GOD for the men & woman in law enforcement who put there lives on the line every day to protect us. i am thankful GOD bless.

PTLTudor @ 9/20/2011 1:59 AM

How many officers have to be injured or killed in lethal force encounters before we as Cops stop relying so much on the Taser? I'm glad she's ok, but come on guys, This has got to stop. Lethal force is met with lethal force.

Diana Girgis @ 9/18/2012 7:30 PM

So glad that there are still some good people out there to offer help..Officers don't often think of us "good samaritans" helping but we're out there and we are paying attention when we see an officer at a car of scene..because if anyone messes with you officers..we're ready to jump in and save you..yes save you..you do so much for us...is't our turn...love to all of you in Law Enforcement..Diana
