Holding grudges and acting them out is too often an Irish way of communicating. Many of us struggle, and the elaborate court and legal systems are too complicated and distant to help. I taught my disabled brother, both of us Irish, instead of acting out, bring two lists to each meeting: 4-5 things you like about a situation, and 3-5 things you dislike. This helped others hear and reflect. We all need to write our essays or make our videos and discuss them, not leave communicating about deep values, loyalties, to professionals who analyze it all, leaving the rest of our population only talking with peers, with history and some values never addressed in public. To try to communicate, we have to put the drink or drugs away, ask for an audience, and show an effort to try, several times - add patience but persistence. Otherwise we are all acting in separate silos, pitted against each other. Not just Irish but we need our own reflection.
