Why am I not seeing any criticism of the officer driving. Why would he drive right up to a possibly armed suspect and put his partner in a position to step right out of the vehicle face to face with the suspect. My opinion is the officer had no choice but to fire when the suspect reached for the gun.

I agree....poor tactics caused this shooting.

Ordinary Joe @ 12/5/2014 6:58 AM

Absolutely poor tactics. Maybe that is why the department has agreed to retraining?

Domino effect. Driver fucked up then the rookie fucked up. All of this should not have happend. As above stated Poor Tactics.

How did the rookie F up? The driver put him in a position where he was face to face with a person he thought had a real gun in his hand. At the risk of sounding unsympathetic, his "deficiencies" didn't seem to be an issue as his shots were effective.

Cleveland PD has had a long standing issue regarding professionalism and basic tactics. I truly feel sorry for the rookie officer. He was put into a no win situation. Plus, have his record with the prior Police Department he worked for become a media spectacle on top of it....all that with less than 10 months on the job. Anyone with eyes can see that the FTO's tactics were, at least, unsound.
