Every person deserve to live but if your life is threatened especially for a LEO who is there to protect the community than you have to make that split second decision. The officer was courageous enough to take that measure, for christ sake he had a sword in his hand. Just think of the victim from the recent London incident, if that soldier had a firearm in his hand it would have been a totally different story. When Police don't do their job they get criticised and when they do their job they still get criticised!! It's better to loose an idiot than loose an officer who is there to protect the community from such lunatics. Mental illness should not be an excuse for such offences. His family states clearly as per media reports that he takes his meds regularly so why defend the perpetrator?? Clearly he had something against police otherwise he would go harm someone else or take it out on something else. Maybe he was just a copycat from that London incident and was testing police!! Media should stop speculating on police using excessive force and LET THE POLICE DO THEIR JOB!!! People these days don't learn from words, if the only language they understand is weapons so be it. Applaud American Law Enforcement for doing a great job. What you guys and girls go through and put up with is very courageous. It takes a special person to do what use do. Not everyone can do it. I would challenge anyone who criticise LEO's to walk a day in their shoes and see first hand, maybe they will have a different opinion than. God bless you all and keep you safe out there!! You all do a great job!

You can get killed just as dead by a crazy guy with a blade, as you can by a Jihadist with a blade (London). Sometimes, sadly, the only solution is an ounce or two of lead.

Bottom LINE is and I could care less if this was angry Bikers who shot and killed this idiot COPS probably shot him with .40 cal SIG SAUERS or maybe LAPD is cheap and buys TAURUS .40 cals who cares lucky it was not in parts of WV or KY he may have been shot dead by machine gun fire and body vaporized literally ?

Capt. Crunch @ 5/23/2013 6:31 PM

Don't criticise the officer he was just doing his job. The suspect is a dumba-- for taking a knife to a gun fight. The officer should receive a commendation.

TERRY F. ZECH @ 5/24/2013 4:29 AM

The suspect failed to follow verbal commands to drop his deadly weapon. I don't know if any of you have ever been stabbed by a knife or glass shards, I have and it hurts like hell. Anyway the suspect lived by the sword and he died for it. Good job Inglewood.

whatever abda scoobada with your garbage cell phone camera that you cant see anything on. good thing this crazy dude didnt come after you with that blade huh you would have gave him several verbal orders before you ran i bet...cuz your such a law abiding citizen im sure you got a gun permit. lol thank god i don work n CA its so liberal and anti cop/law/system in that place.

Bob@Az. @ 6/17/2013 7:11 PM

Sad. If any of the witnesses, like the man with the 'cell, had been on the recieving end of that blade and a cop stopped the attack it would have been a different news (?) cast. And where was that interview shot, a corn field? The Media, spinning all the news all the time. Blues,Stay Safe.

A sword, especially in the hands of someone trained to use it, is a frighteningly deadly weapon, even against a gun in close ranges like those shown on the video. It's a well known fact that 22 feet is required to draw a pistol and fire an accurate shot against a knife wielding attacker. Given that a knife is usually 4 to 8 inches in length and a katana is probably more like four feet in length and incredibly sharp, how much further do you think that reaction distance needs to be? A skilled swordsman within 20 feet could probably decapitate you with a sword like that before you had time to draw your gun. The UOF is legit, people.

That cop is a bastard and a coward.
