Officer Krawetz was in a martial arts kicking stance when striking the victim. I know this because I have studied martial arts in various disciplines and that is definitely a striking stance.

Random @ 3/19/2012 11:46 PM

There may have been other options. The photograph was of poor quality. He showed excellent balance in the way he planted his left leg. It did show that he aligned his foot parallel to her head to maximize force. I would give the kick 6 out of ten for quality. You can inverse the previous number for ethics.

Did You Notice @ 3/20/2012 9:05 AM

Dude seriously needs anger management intervention, along with some jail time.

He viciously kicks a handcuffed woman in the head because she might have said something to him to upset him?

And what about the other officers on the scene? Why didn't they arrest this clown at the scene? I would like to know why he was given a suspended sentence instead of doing some serious jail time? Was he kicked off the PD? If not, why not?

Steve E @ 3/21/2012 7:39 PM

Felony Battery plane and simple. Imagine if that was a man in cuff's instead of a woman I would venture a good guess to say the punk officer would have taken the time to put a lot more effort into the kick and break the cuffed suspects jaw. He is a felon. She needs to sue him personally in civil court. This is all about professionalism folks. If a mouth ranting female in cuffs and get his goat then he is a ticking time bomb.

Keep it real @ 3/22/2012 9:00 AM

This guy should be in jail. This type of abuse creates a disrespect for Law Enforcement Officers. UFC (mixed martial arts) rules don't allow a kick to the head when you opponent is on the ground. This women was handcuffed sitting, clearly no threat to this moron who appears to be twice her size.

B26354 @ 3/22/2012 9:20 AM

As casual as he acted in the video, this guy has done stuff like this before. You'd think he'd have acted embarrassed on the stand.

AusFost1 @ 3/22/2012 5:15 PM

Shocking. Agree with Did You Notice - serious anger management issues. He clearly has some sort of martial arts training too, which is disgraceful - karateka should have self control. Hope he's sacked by now?

Dan the Man @ 3/22/2012 5:44 PM

A very bad decision to use the kick to the head as a "defensive" move to a powerless, barefooted kick made by a "handcuffed" woman sitting on the curb. What bonehead? He should not be allowed to keep his badge. A good example of a poorly trained officer that brings dishonor to the many thousands of officers that do an excellent job, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

james b @ 3/23/2012 5:54 PM

This piece of trash needs to do time.I bet hes back on duty attacking the citizens of this city by now...

bigD @ 3/25/2012 8:02 PM

Lot of cops on steroids these days and it shows. That is a fact.
being a former body builder and arrested for steroids. but funny when we went to booking they juice amazingly disappeared and I was released with no charges

Nicholas Pagano @ 3/27/2012 9:34 AM

Why was this person given a suspended sentence? This police officer is a vicious person who kicked a handcuffed woman in the head. He should be removed from the police department and placed in a prison cell. He will do this again - no questions.

mike @ 4/1/2012 5:33 PM

Dont kick the police. deserved what she got

Steve @ 4/19/2012 9:23 PM

everyone here needs to understand that this drunken fool, after being rightfully detained, made the conscious decision to strike an officer of the law. his reaction, though excessive, makes a point. if it makes it ok to strike not just police officers, but people in general, where does the line get drawn? years back, a providence police officer was shot in the police department, by a man who had been "detained". handcuffs don't take away the dangers of the job. stop creating red tape.

FLECK @ 7/2/2012 7:14 AM

Fucking him !

DF @ 7/8/2012 3:09 PM

What the video DOESN'T show is how he could have instigated/provoked her into trying to kick him so he had the 'defense' authority to kick her in the head! Seriously, he doesn't belong on the force...his job is to PROTECT people, not HURT them!

Marie @ 7/8/2012 11:33 PM

No comment - you're a disgrace! I hope you never get your job back. that's someone's wife/motherr/sister/aunty.

Disgrace - actually you're a coward - doing that in front of other police offices to look tough!

Get some help!

curt @ 7/9/2012 6:59 AM

what a mock trial. He's almost smiling half the time. There was no chance he was in trouble. I hope you guys can see that. They are allowed, no programmed to do what thou will.. research it.

Art @ 7/9/2012 3:05 PM

What a prick that edward krawetz
A man hitting or kicking a woman is a coward anyway, but if you even kick a woman who is cuffed than you really the lowest of the lowest.

well @ 7/9/2012 9:31 PM

The woman was not a danger to Krawetz at all. She was handcuffed and sitting down while Krawets was standing up and not handcuffed. Her kicking him didn't even make him flinch. He was in no danger, there was no reason to "defend himself".

Shelly @ 7/10/2012 5:43 AM

Why wasn't his first reaction to just step aside, she obviously is no real threat to him, but then again she's disgustingly drunk and maybe needed a good kick to the head. Two sides to every story.

Travis Williams @ 7/10/2012 4:50 PM

she obviously kicked at him first. but nobody else was there to know the circumstances. maybe he should take a few anger classes but taking away his career for using too much force is questionable. how would anybody else act if someone kicked at them? would they just step back and not retaliate?

Tony @ 7/11/2012 8:03 AM

What a brave bastard, he went way beyond his duties. As simple as he could move 2 steps away from the woman to avoid trial for being a violent woman-beating coward can't imagine his family, this guy is a potential killer just because he can't hold his anger and thinks is his job to kick a defenseless drunk woman in the face, there is no justification for this no matter what they say this guy belongs to jail among prisoners in equal conditions of weight and strength, let's see if he can do that inside.

cathyg @ 7/11/2012 8:50 PM

This guy exceeded the necessary amount of force to contain the situation. In my job as a corrections officer, if I had done this a similar situation I would be without a job. He did this with prejudice and malice!

Chick Kicker @ 11/2/2012 8:46 AM

Where's the rest of the video showing all this crazy bitch did to wind up in cuffs on the side walk? A flick of his foot was all he did. The attorney is a piece of shit trying to sensationalize what happened....a roundhouse would have had a wind up, if all you "expert martial artists" chiming in actually knew. Just like Rodney POS King. A friggin cracked up a hole fights police for over an hour and 6 mins of a deserved beat down get him millions?

DivineDiva @ 11/3/2012 2:01 PM

Was this the first time he ran into a situation like this...what could she have possibly said to make him angry enough to kick her in the face...I don't need to see the video (if there was any) of what it took to subdue this woman...the fact of the matter is, she was cuffed with her hands behind her and she was sitting on the curb....not in a threatening position as to where she was a threat. He should at least lose his job...

Raphael Dingli @ 11/5/2012 4:10 AM

All you people defending this crazy cop tells the whole world why the USA is facing the end of empire and in total decline. There is no excuse for his action here - irrespective of what may have happened earlier - even if she had bitten his silly dick( if he has one) off. She was in cuffs for crying out loud. No excuse on this planet could justify his action. There is no justification for his action - ANYONE WHO THINKS OTHERWISE SHOULD BE COMMITTED - TOGETHER WITH HIM!!!!!!

DEAN FODERA @ 11/6/2012 9:25 PM

concerned_about_violence @ 12/8/2012 12:09 PM

The cop is wrong across the board. If the woman was still a danger, she should have been immediately moved into the backseat of a cruiser, not kicked around like a sock monkey. Suspects shouldn't be in danger from cops after being apprehended and cuffed. He's not fit to be a cop.

Marcus @ 12/17/2012 10:41 AM

Not sure what she said to him, and perhaps it was cruel, but the fact of the matter is, she was handcuffed and sitting on the ground which would render her defenseless against him. There was no reason whatsoever to kick a helpless woman in the head. That's pretty low and he deserves jail time for assault. He's a coward.

Moe @ 12/18/2012 5:05 AM

This made me absolutely disgusted. No matter what that woman did or said that amount of force and action was uncalled for. Yes she must have done something out of order and that is why she was handcuffed and put under arrest but why make her into something less than dirt? Why wasn't she seated in the backseat of the car if she was being rowdy? No matter if she is a woman, NO ONE should ever have to be treated that way! This cowardly act of this useless excuse for a man was down right disgusting. He should NEVER be allowed to work with others or any living creature again. Its a sad day when a cop does not make you feel safe.

graham @ 12/18/2012 1:27 PM

That is a perfect round house kick used in martial arts. Having his left foot turned around and having his right arm down the leg is text book training to get maximum power out of the kick. He even has his left hand up protecting his bottom jaw, the guy obviously knew what he was doing and is obvioulsy lying through his back teeth. Should be jailed for life in my opinion.

Daddy @ 12/21/2012 7:55 PM

He is a Punk and a Thug.

Ian @ 12/27/2012 7:32 PM

The fact that this felon is allowed to walk away with no jail time is bad enough .But to even consider reinstating him on the force set's this two tiered justice system where 1 set of laws for the common folk and above the law status for others. If one of those other officers was related to that woman our boy Eddy might be missing teeth

This guy needs some serious anger management - he should be in jail. Unbelievable.

joanna pray @ 3/1/2013 10:41 PM

Really bro .........really ?????? Daughter.......... ..sister......mother ......wife???? Ever hear of Karma ........Wow !!!!!!!!!! Stupid move dude it's coming back!!!! I woulda wished for a minute in jail and loss of my job as opposed to sitting around and waiting every minute of every day until that day comes .........Damn well hell maybe THAT IS the punishment DAMN you are fucked!

Alisha @ 3/3/2013 6:16 AM

Classic mommy issues. Clearly this wasnt his first time assaulting a woman.

jadon jostem @ 3/11/2013 7:23 AM

I happen to know a little about this case. This officer was diagnosed with PTSD 2 yrs before this happened. His department knew and even paid for therapy because it was a work related incident that led to it. The department never ordered him to continue therapy and never checked on him. If u break your leg at work, don't you have to be cleared to go back. It was a ticking time bomb situation that could have been avoided if the department had a policy on mental illness. The kick was total reaction. He has no martial arts training at all. No steroids since he's average weight and height. She was drunk, had sex with s man in the parking lot (he disappeared because he was married). She assaulted the good inside the establishment and resisted arrest. She wasn't put in a cruiser because there wasnt one there. It was a detail. The cop reacted to what he thought was s threat from an already established assaultive person. She was not injured and didn't ask fir or receive medical attention. She never lost conciousness and actually started swearing at the cop that checked on her immediately after. She flopped over becduse she was drunk. So drunk she didn't know it even happened until she was shown the video. The cop felt horrible about the incident but he just reacted. Never at any point did he want to return to his job. He realized, with the PTSD, he couldn't perform the duties any longer and resigned. Don't believe everything you see on the internet.

Darlene @ 4/24/2013 8:49 PM

Lets just hope he has a daughter and someone does this to her and see how he feels.

Darlene @ 4/24/2013 8:52 PM

So Jadan why is asking for his job back now. He should have gotten jail time. I dont care how drunk you are, he was the one in control.

Arnie Wener @ 5/22/2013 10:01 PM

In the United States, it is common practice for judges to hand down suspended sentences to first-time offenders who have committed a minor crime, and for prosecutors to recommend suspended sentences as part of a plea bargain. I think the sentence is too mild or the justice system in the US has a big whole!

Devon @ 6/18/2013 11:42 PM

I agree he should be severely punished. But in response to Art. Fuck you and your feminism. He should't be hitting anyone. Be it a man or a woman. The fact that you think it's bad because she was a woman disgusts me. Whether it's a male or female it is equally not right to assault people.

lj @ 11/10/2013 9:38 PM

This is bullshit

lj @ 11/10/2013 9:39 PM

They already believe they are above the law..can't stand the piece of crap

anonymous27 @ 12/31/2013 2:32 AM

It wasnt a first offense, do some research, this officer already had a checkered past with anger issues and questionable behavior in a couple of unrelated incidents going back to 2001. One involved a jogger when he was off-duty, and his actions got him in some hot water. I dont really believe he deserved time, especially 10 years, that seemed excessive to me, despite my low opinion of this guy as an officer. Had she been seriously injured, thats a different story. However he should have been fired, not resigned, and perhaps had to pay some fines and/or do some community service.

anonymous27 @ 12/31/2013 2:38 AM

Either way, the police force does not need bad apples like this. There are plenty of worthy candidates coming up thru the academies trying to get these jobs. Furtermore these incidents undermine public support of law enforcement and risk those who do the job with honor and integrity being painted with the same brush.

Molly @ 4/18/2014 9:06 AM

Whatever happened to public service? Replaced by paramilitary thugs....

Harry @ 5/26/2014 4:57 PM

This is exactly why I celebrate everything a "officer of the law" is blown away by some gang banger or street thug. The police are the real dangerous thugs today. Thugs killing thugs should be celebrated. It cleans up the gene pool which is a great thing as plenty of cop families continue to crank out thugs for generations. If I could buy every thug out there a gun with a box of armor piercing rounds I would.

bhaskar renuke @ 9/4/2014 11:17 AM

This officer need counseling,as well as training of good behavior with the female and elderly need of suspend and jail.

Judy @ 7/3/2015 12:30 PM

There were previous offenses and red flags with this guy. This case should draw attention to the fact that the public is endangered by the rehiring of people who have been terminated for behavior unbefitting someone who carries such power and authority. That role is nothing to play around with, but this is far from being the only case where people with clear evidence of problems are rehired. This guy was convicted of misdemeanor assault when off duty in 2001 and the town officials asked the police chief to fire him. Presumably this was before the onset of his PTSD diagnosis referred to above. This guy should have had some jail time and counseling but he may be sociopathic in which case counseling won't help. The reason he wasn't immediately fired is probably because of civil service rules, not the choice of the PD or city officials. I can't blame him for trying to keep his job, everybody needs health benefits and salary. But he deserved to be terminated.
