Is it really true that NYPD officers receive NO ongoing defensive tactics training once they get out of the academy? That is almost impossible to believe. Do they receive any kind of refresher training throughout their careers?

At my agency we are mandated to receive 40 hours of refresher training each year. And for many years now, defensive tactics have been one of the required subjects that has to be a part of that 40 hours.

I've always assumed that was pretty much the norm. Have I been wrong?
