Atlanta Police Chief George Turner has disbanded the agency's hard-charging drug strike force, known as the Red Dog unit, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The city agreed to pay out a more than $1 million settlement in December to patrons of the Atlanta Eagle bar, who claimed that Red Dog officers violated their civil rights during a 2009 raid.
The Atlanta PD launched Red Dog, which is said to stand for Run Every Drug Dealer Out Of Georgia, during the crack-cocaine epidemic in the 1980s when Atlanta had open-air drug markets and almost weekly drive-by shootings.
