A Florida teen has been charged with vehicular homicide, fleeing and eluding police, leaving the scene of a crash with death, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage and driving with a license suspended or revoked.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, the driver—identified as 18-year-old Jamar Johnson—was in a vehicle attempting to elude deputies when he fatally struck a woman walking in a crosswalk.
The incident began when a deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle, when the driver reportedly sped off. That deputy did not initiate a pursuit, instead calling over the radio that the suspect had fled.
Undercover deputies in an unmarked car then located the subject vehicle and followed from a distance.
Johnson allegedly ran a red light, struck another vehicle, spun out and struck 30-year-old Jee-esta Shurock.
Shurock was transported to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.
