South Carolina Trooper Disciplined For Discharging Sidearm After Vehicle Pursuit

A trooper with the South Carolina Highway Patrol has been placed on administrative duty pending an investigation after it was reported that he discharged his service weapon during a vehicle pursuit of a man who disregarded a traffic signal.

A trooper with the South Carolina Highway Patrol has been placed on administrative duty pending an investigation after it was reported that he discharged his service weapon during a vehicle pursuit of a man who disregarded a traffic signal.

According to Island Packet, the driver of the suspect vehicle lost control, causing the car to some to a stop. As the officer approached, he reportedly discharged his weapon.

The driver was unhurt and arrested on charges of disregarding a traffic control device, failing to stop for a blue light, driving under suspension and operating an uninsured, expired vehicle license.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division continues to investigate the matter.
