NC Deputy Shot, Saved by Armor

The bullet passed through the deputy's body-worn video camera and lodged in the body armor the deputy was wearing.

A Lee County, NC, sheriff's deputy was shot Friday night in Sanford while responding to a call about a man who was publicly intoxicated, officials said.

As police approached Jeremy Shane Gentry, 27, from Cameron, he removed a concealed handgun and shot the deputy's body camera, officials said. The bullet passed through the camera and lodged in the body armor the deputy was wearing, WRAL reports.

The deputy was treated at a local hospital and released shortly after. The suspect was taken into custody.
