A Colorado judge entered a not guilty plea for suspected Aurora theater shooter James Holmes over the objections of his attorneys who argued they needed more time to respond to charges.
Judge William Sylvester entered the plea on Holmes' behalf, telling his attorneys they could change it later to not guilty by reason of insanity. Prosecutors will announce whether they will seek the death penalty by April 1. A trial will begin April 5.
Holmes' attorneys said they needed more time for mental evaluations of their client, reports the Denver Post.
Holmes is accused of killing 12 people and wounding 58 others at a July 20 screening of "The Dark Knight Returns." He has been charged with 141 felonies.
