N.C. Sheriff's Deputies Tase Pallbearer at Father's Funeral

Unbeknownst to some family and friends, the younger Russ had failed to keep a promise of turning himself in to sheriff’s deputies. So the sheriff’s office planned to arrest him discreetly at the 2 p.m. funeral – a move that backfired in the emotionally charged environment. Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Ed McMahon chalked it up to bad timing.

Man Shot and Killed by LAPD Officers in Wilshire Center Area

The man repeatedly reached for his waistband while he led police on a short foot chase to New Hampshire and 3rd streets. There, two officers shot him after he reached again for the black object, Lopez said. The shooting happened shortly after 7 p.m.; the man died later at a hospital.

Detroit Police Fatally Shoot Gunman

Responding officers shot the 52-year-old after he pointed a gun at them, investigators said. Officers noticed the man had a gun as they were talking to the person who called for help at 1:14 a.m. Tuesday, spokesman James Tate said.
