Jared Loughner Pleads Guilty, Avoids Death Penalty

Jared Lee Loughner pleaded guilty Tuesday to the Tucson shooting attack last year that killed six people and wounded 13, including then-Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. A federal judge here concluded that Loughner understands at this time that he's responsible for opening fire during a congressional constituent meeting in a parking lot.

Ky. Department Shifts To Dodge Chargers

The Hazard (Ky.) Police Department is replacing its Ford Crown Victoria fleet with Dodge Chargers, beginning with the purchase of five vehicles. Sgt. Paul Campbell told the newspaper that the department chose the Charger because of its fuel economy and speed.

Wounded Officer Faced Hail of Bullets at Sikh Temple

Lt. Brian Murphy, a 21-year veteran of the Oak Creek Police Department, was struck by nine bullets fired by Wade Michael Page, who opened fire inside Sikh Temple of Wisconsin at about 10:25 a.m. Sunday.

The shooter who opened fire before worship services Sunday at the Sikh Temple in Oak Creek, Wis., and killed six people before he was killed by police is Wade Michael Page, a 40-year-old Army veteran who served in the military approximately between 1992 and 1998.
