Oakland Police Union, City Agree on New Pension Deal

Oakland's police union said Monday that its members agreed to pay more into their pensions and accepted a later retirement for new hires, concessions that depend on voters passing a four-year, $360-a-year parcel tax in November.

Angel Alvarez, 23, shot an killed 21-year-old Luis Soto, then exchanged fire with at least five officers. Alvarez fired at least four rounds, and Officer Michael Tadeschi was likely struck by a friendly fire round that deflected after striking his ballistic vest.
