The Los Angeles airport police union urged the federal government Monday to begin requiring full-body scans for every passenger at airport security checkpoints, saying metal detectors are no longer enough.

FBI Special Agent Joseph Dickey of the Las Vegas field office said investigators believe the gunman was acting alone when he fatally shot the officer and wounded a deputy U.S. marshal. Dickey said the shooting, which occurred about 8:05 a.m. at the courthouse at 333 Las Vegas Blvd. South, didn't appear to be an act of terrorism.

DA Won't Prosecute Officer Who Kicked Gang Member In the Head

In his report declining to file charges, Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Jason Lustig wrote that Fierro may have been provoked into using a distraction blow when he kicked Richard Rodriguez. The blow was meant to stun or distract Rodriguez rather, Lustig added.
