California Officer Shot During Pat-Down Search

An officer was conducting a pat-down search of a male in a group of two males and two females. The man got nervous, went to the ground, then got up, pulled out a gun and shot twice at the officer. Neither bullet hit the officer, although one struck his car. The officer did not return fire.

High-Crime LAPD Gang Units Dismantled

In exchange for revisions to the take-home car program, the APOA gave up retention bonuses for veteran officers (costing about $750,000 annually), loan reimbursements (costing $83,000), and mortgage incentives for signing a seven-year commitment (costing $98,000).

The number of unauthorized immigrants in the nation's workforce, 8 million in March 2010, also did not differ from the Pew Hispanic Center estimate for 2009. As with the population total, the number of unauthorized immigrants in the labor force had decreased in 2009 from its peak of 8.4 million in 2007.
