Conn. Officer To Be Honored 117 Years After Duty Death

A Fairfield, Conn., sheriff's deputy who died in the line of duty while trying to arrest a stabbing suspect will be honored during National Police Week in May with the addition of his name to the marble wall of the National Law Enforcement Memorial.

Billie Ruffner, a 28-year veteran of the DOC, apparently failed to do monthly checks on Thomas Hardy, which allowed him to go free. Hardy is accused of murdering Officer David Moore during a traffic stop Jan. 23.

N.C. Bank Robber Tells Hostage To Call Police

A female bank employee who called 911 told the dispatcher, "We're getting robbed, and the guy told me to call the police." The man apparently jumped the teller line and demanded nothing more than the call.
