Wash. Man Sues City Over K-9 Attack

A Lakewood Police Department K-9 and his handler are the subject of a $3 million lawsuit filed Wednesday by Chad Boyles, a Pierce County resident who was mauled while walking in his South Tacoma neighborhood early on the morning of May 7, 2011.

An Annandale (Va.) Police officer was cut out of his cruiser, after a wrong-way driver struck him on Little River Turnpike early Thursday. The 28-year-old officer suffered multiple injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

A 28-year-old man was sentenced on Thursday to 45 years to life in prison for the 2011 killing of a veteran police officer during a botched predawn robbery in Brooklyn. It was the maximum allowable sentence.

Sgt. Gary Morales, 35, was shot Thursday morning shortly after making the stop at 9:28 a.m. Deputies had stopped a vehicle just south of Fort Pierce in an unincorporated area.
