26 Suspected MS-13 Members Indicted in North Carolina

A federal grand jury indicted 26 suspected members of the notoriously violent MS-13 gang Tuesday in Charlotte— an effort to shut down a culture of intimidation operating in 42 states and five countries. MS-13 members have been linked to four homicides, drug trafficking and extortion in the Carolinas.

Shaquille O’Neal will lose his special deputy’s badge in Maricopa County because of language he used in a rap video that mocks former teammate Kobe Bryant. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said the Phoenix Suns center’s use of a racially derogatory word and other foul language left him no choice. Arpaio made Shaq a special deputy in 2006 and promoted him to colonel of his largely ceremonial posse later that year.

Suspect in California Cop Shooting Killed in Fierce Gun Battle on 91 Freeway

Anaheim police Sgt. Tim Schmidt said the fatal gunfight took place shortly after midnight as officers attempted to pull over the suspect as he fled east on the 91 Freeway. The man ran into traffic near Brookhurst Street, hitting other vehicles and disabling his own car, Schmidt said. The suspect then exited his vehicle, armed with a handgun, Schmidt said. Taking cover behind other cars, the suspect exchanged gunfire with at least two officers and was shot, Schmidt said.
