Xenopus Electronix crime scene and forensic flashlights illuminate evidence through fluorescence. The company offers a single-wavelength model, and some of their products are enabled to change modes between blue and ultraviolet, or white and ultraviolet. Flashlights are available in several ultraviolet wavelengths from 365 to 400nm, as well as in 465nm blue and 520nm green. Rechargeable lanterns that feature high-flux LED emitters provide intense blue or UV for high-output power.

Sirchie MegaMaxx is a compact kit that contains eight LED-type lights ranging from ultraviolet to 625nm, plus one white light. Each light is made of heavy-duty aluminum alloy and operates on batteries. Seven of the lights feature a high-intensity, 1-watt LED; the UV light features five LEDs for greater power. The kit also includes barrier goggles, special camera lens filters, a tripod light holder, and sturdy carrying case.

Spectronic Corporation’s Maxima ML-3500 long-wave ultraviolet (UV) lamp puts out up to 10 times the normal UV output of conventional UV lamps. It clearly illuminates gasoline, kerosene, benzene, and other arson accelerants, as well as fluorescent wrappings of incendiary devices such as road flares. The new Maxima UV lamp is powerful enough to be used in direct sunlight and comes with a rechargeable battery that operates the unit for up to two hours.

Green lasers are the rage this year in weapon-mounted lights. Why? If you were to set a green laser and a red laser side by side in a dark room, you'd hardly notice the difference. The green systems really shine in daylight or moderately bright environments. Our eyes see images in a defined spectrum from near infrared to near ultraviolet. Red is at the far edge of the spectrum close to infrared. But green is right smack dab in the middle of that spectrum, which is the most efficient frequency for the human eye.
