Around 5 a.m. on Sunday, police responded to the family's 911 calls about Burks. They said he was armed and they were concerned for other people's safety. He was also carrying a folding knife, which White said had an 8-inch blade on it.

South Carolina Officer Shot, Saved by Vest
A North Charleston police officer shot in the abdomen during a standoff Monday was likely saved from more serious injury by his ballistic vest, according to North Charleston Deputy Chief David Cheatle. Officer Wayne Pavlischeck has now been released from the hospital. More Here.

South Carolina Deputy Rolls His SUV
An on-duty Richland County (S.C.) deputy will not be charged in a Friday night  accident where South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers say he ran a red light and slammed into another driver. Troopers say Proffitt's blue lights were not on when he tried to go through the intersection. The cruiser flipped over and the other car was totaled. The deputy was treated for minor injuries at the hospital. The other driver, 22-year-old Katie Miles has scratches and bruises.
