Reynolds saw the muzzle flashes from Wallace's .45 and darted to his left, sprinting across the blacktop and onto a gravel road. Bullets ricocheted off the ground at his feet. He ran for the cover of a telephone pole and returned fire, laying down six rounds of suppression fire. Munro opened fire, too. Wallace shot back.

The suspect spun counterclockwise to face Cpl. Chris Stabio. His face was contorted into a grimace and his lips seemed to mouth an unheard profanity. He raised his right arm toward Stabio. In his hand was a dark object. That the object was a firearm didn't become apparent until Stabio was about almost six feet inside the front door and it started spitting fire at him.

After serving several DEA warrants in Oakland, Fremont, Calif., police officer Todd Young and his partner headed into East Oakland in hopes of locating a wanted Union City gang member whose ex-girlfriend had said that he'd been hanging out in the area. The officers were met with gunfire, when they located their suspect.

On Nov. 26, 2011, two Volusia County (Fla.) Sheriff's deputies John Braman and John Brady approached suspect Corey Reynolds, who suprised them with a .40-caliber handgun. On Aug. 25, 2008, Skokie (Ill.) Police Officer Tim Gramins was drawn into a deadly duel after pursuing a bank robbery suspect into a residential neighborhood. A neighbor placed this 911 call while witnessing the incident. POLICE Magazine features the incident as the February 2012 "Shots Fired."

Skokie (Ill.) Police Officer Tim Gramins pursuit of bank robbery suspect Raymond Maddox was going well until Maddox headed into a residential neighborhood and slammed on the brakes. Gramins was drawn into a deadly daylight gunfight with neighbors looking on. Maddox lacerated the officer's cruiser with a barrage of 9mm and .380 rounds until Gramins ended the fight.
