San Jose PD Testing TASER AXON Video System
The portable AXON cameras, made by Taser International, are expected to be given to 72 San Jose officers in late November or early December, police said. The cameras can record an officer's point of view for up to 10 1/2 hours, and police say the devices will help officers write more accurate reports and aid officers if their actions are called in to question.

After months of talk of possible layoffs, the San Jose (Calif.) Police Department learned today the force would lose 9% of its sworn officers in a city cost-cutting move. The agency will send lay-off notices to 106 officers and an additional 20 cops may soon be demoted.

The San Jose (Calif.) Police Department lost 66 young officers, who turned in their badges Thursday in the city's first-ever police layoffs. The cuts brought the force from 1,271 to 1,106 officers, which is less than two decades ago, when the city had 200,000 fewer people.
