A Pasadena (Texas) Police officer used a seat-belt cutter to save a boy who had slipped a zip tie around his neck and tightened it. While being pulled over for a seat-belt violation on Nov. 5, the driver asked the officer to help her 5- or 6-year-old son.

NLEOMF's Officers of the Month

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) has honored some of the nation's bravest and most dedicated officers through its Officer of the Month program. Officers of the month are nominated by their supervisors, and then the nominees are reviewed by the NLEOMF staff. Nominations that make the cut receive consideration from a select committee of NLEOMF board members. Last year POLICE Magazine became official media sponsor for the Officer of the Month program. The man, who is in his 30s, was distraught over a breakup with his girlfriend. In footage captured by a bystander, the man can be seen dangling from the edge, as officers grab him by the jeans. As officers attempted to pull him to safety, he reportedly tried to bite the arm of the officer who was holding onto him.

Officer David Sedmak’s trouble began when he heard a radio call on May 7 about a shooting at a downtown Houston Greyhound station. After learning that an officer had been shot, Sedmak left the campus – two minutes away from the scene – and rushed to the scene to help. Officers said Sedmak was a hero, but Rice University fired him for dereliction of duty.

Saturday evening, Officer Jim Ennemoser heard an emergency call for the fire department over the scanner, and decided to head to the river himself. "I was coming down the path right here, I could hear people yelling to the people in the water to try and make it to shore," Ennemoser said, while pointing to the spot of the incident.
