DA to Seek Death Penalty for Killing of Off-Duty N.C. Officer

Marques Brown, 27, is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting that killed Goodson at a local gas station while the officer was attempting to serve a warrant for Brown’s arrest. Goodson was off duty and assisting another officer at the time of the shooting.

An off-duty Lumberton (N.C.) Police Department officer was fatally shot Tuesday as he and another officer attempted to apprehend a murder suspect. Master Police Officer Jeremiah Goodson had six years of service.
