How many times do we consider what we would do if someone introduced a knife into a fight in which we were already engaged? Do we have the ability to draw and fire? Can we create distance or even defend ourselves properly in order to survive the attack? These are questions rarely addressed.

Man Who Drove into WI Parade was Fleeing Knife Fight
Darrell E. Brooks, Jr., 39, was at the scene of a reported knife fight, then sped away in the red SUV when police arrived at that scene, a police source told the Washington Post. Brooks was allegedly behind the wheel when that SUV drove into the parade route Sunday. Authorities identified Brooks as the “lone subject” during a Monday afternoon news conference.

Wisconsin Officer Kicked Unconscious Making Arrest, Nurse Takes Down Suspect
While the nurse was checking on the sergeant, she realized Boomsma was beginning to fight with the officer again, and that Boomsma was yelling about having a knife in her pocket. The nurse was concerned that Boomsma was going to stab the officer or the unconscious sergeant, so she body slammed her and held her until an officer could handcuff her. More Here.

Two civilians intervened to help San Diego (Calif.) Police Officer Kelly Doherty, after a suspect she was questioning began punching her in the face. The suspect inflicted knife wounds on all three, before a TASER ended the fight.

Neighbor of Ohio Girl Killed by Police During Knife Attack Says Others Would Have Died If Officer Didn't Act
Neighbor Donovan Brinson told The Columbus Dispatch that he was pulling into his driveway as the incident started. He said he “figured it was just a girl fight.” He said the fight got worse and that, while he was inside, he heard gunshots after police responded.

Ohio Officer Fatally Shoots Girl Attacking Another Girl with Knife in Hand
As soon as police pulled up, a young female can be seen tackling another female to the ground with what appeared to be a knife in her hand. The girl can then be seen charging at another nearby female while raising the apparent knife in the air, at which point the officer fired multiple shots, fatally wounding the attacker.

The chance that you will ever use a blade as a weapon in the course of your law enforcement duties is slim. It's far more likely that someone will attack you with a blade. Still, you carry knives. So you need to know how to use them. More importantly, the bad guys carry knives so you need to know how to counter them.
