I remember riding with another L.A. Deputy Sheriff in an East Los Angeles gang car in 1975. To me, it was a privilege working with a special gang suppression unit, but my partner complained that he hated working gangs because it was useless. But he was wrong.

Nationally Recognized "Gang Peacemaker" Arrested in Federal Gang Sweep
Alex Sanchez, executive director of Homies Unidos, was taken into custody by FBI agents this morning at his Bellflower, Calif., home. Sanchez and several members of MS-13, one of the nation's most ruthless and notorious gangs, were named as co-conspirators in the indictment, which will be unsealed later today, said FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller.

Gang Graffiti
Graffiti continues to be used as a written form of communication between street gangs. An observant patrol officer can read graffiti and collect valuable information about past, current and future gang activities. Graffiti can be used to mark off turf boundaries, give insults to rival gangs, act as a warning of impending death, list fallen comrades, announce the presence of a gang in a certain area of the city or show gang alliances.
