Mount Arlington (N.J.) Police officer Joseph Wargo was killed when a drunk driver traveling at a high rate of speed collided into his patrol car. Officer Wargo, 38, was on patrol when he was struck while driving east on Route 80 at about 1 a.m. Sunday.

Lower Burrell (Pa.) Police Patrolman Derek Kotecki was shot and killed at a Dairy Queen restaurant Wednesday evening as police tried to arrest a wanted fugitive. Officer Kotecki, 40, was an 18-year veteran and the department's K-9 officer.
Miss. Capt. Struck, Killed Deploying Spike Strips

A Grenada (Miss.) Police officer deploying spike strips to stop a stolen vehicle was struck and killed by that vehicle. Capt. John Haddock died at the scene on Mississippi Highway 8 near the intersection of Interstate 55.

The Anamosa (Iowa) Police department lost one of its patrol officers in a line-of-duty death the chief has said did not involve suspicious circumstances. Officer David Shane Riches, 34, was a full time Anamosa officer, and a part time deputy for the Jones County Sheriff's Department.

Sgt. Paul Stuckey, 47, of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Enforcement Division was found just outside of St. Francisville in West Feliciana Parish. The officer's body was found at the old ferry landing near the banks of the Mississippi River at daybreak.

Sgt. Joseph Szczerba, 44, had responded to a call for a disorderly person in the Penn Acres community. Szczerba, an 18-year veteran, chased a man on foot. As the two struggled, the man stabbed the officer in the neck.

Officers Eric Fontes and Herman Scanlan were attending to a black SUV that was stopped along Farrington Highway near Ko Olina at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. A pickup truck struck one of the police vehicles at the scene.
Texas Constable Collapses After Guarding Burned Homes

Travis County Constable Cpl. Kevin Aigner died after guarding homes damaged in the Steiner Ranch wildfire. Cpl. Aigner, 38, began having trouble breathing late Saturday and was rushed to Seton Medical Center.
Texas Sgt. Ejected From Vehicle In Fatal Crash

Sgt. Mark Scianna, 49, died in the crash that occurred while he was working his normal overnight traffic supervisor shift. His police vehicle rolled and struck a second utility pole after ejecting the officer.
