N.J.'s Drug Testing for Officers Expected to Curb Steroid Use

Under a plan introduced by the state's attorney general, anabolic steroids and human growth hormone have been added to the list of substances subject to testing. Local departments must fund the tests, meaning they can decide when to carry them out, and even whether or not to do them.

Alvaro Casado was fired by the NYPD in March. He challenged his termination, saying he likely tested positive because he drank Mate de Coca tea his girlfriend's mother gave him after he was in a car accident.
