Legislation to Fund COPS Program Passes Senate
Sen. Biden’s amendment to the FY 2008 Budget Resolution to fully fund the successful COPS program passed the Senate with broad, bi-partisan support. This will provide state and local law enforcement agencies with critical resources to hire community policing and school resource officers, and to purchase new technologies.

Native American Law Enforcement Awarded $36M in Federal Grants
The DOJ’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) has awarded a total of $36 million to 124 tribal law enforcement agencies in 24 states. The grants were awarded under the COPS Tribal Resources Grant Program. Funds will be used to hire community policing officers and to purchase much-needed equipment.

The awards provide direct funding to 183 law enforcement agencies across the nation, allowing those agencies to hire 1,066 additional full-time law enforcement professionals.
