Gunfire Duty Deaths Down 33% in 2017

NLEOMF announced today in its 2017 Preliminary Law Enforcement Fatalities Report that a total of 128 federal, state, local, tribal and territorial officers died in the line of duty over the past year, which is the lowest annual figure since 2013 when 117 officers died. A total of of 143 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty in 2016. This year's 10% decrease reverses three consecutive years of increases in officer deaths.

Graphene Research Could Lead to Foil-Thin Body Armor

Researchers from the City University of New York’s Advanced Science Research Center discovered that by combining no more than two layers of graphene, they would be able to create an ultra-thin material that, when it is struck by a fast-moving projectile like a bullet, it suddenly hardens and protects the wearer.

Safariland Announces 2,000th Body Armor Save

On the night of the incident, Officer Pierce and her K-9 Lex were responding to a call regarding a suspect breaking into vehicles. As she arrived on scene, the suspect fled on a bicycle; Officer Pierce released her K-9, who immediately pursued and detained the suspect. As Officer Pierce closed in to take the suspect into custody, he produced a .45 caliber handgun and shot Pierce at close range directly in the chest, police report.

He received approval to purchase 32 sets of ballistic vests and helmets. It is a $75,000 expense, and the vests will have to be replaced every five years. The goal is to be able to reach patients quickly and keep firefighters safe during dangerous calls. More Here.
