Roger served over 20 years with the NYPD, where he spearheaded the NYPD’s first dedicated facial recognition unit. The unit has conducted more than 8,500 facial recognition investigations, with over 3,000 possible matches and approximately 2,000 arrests. Roger’s enhancement techniques are now recognized worldwide and have changed law enforcement’s approach to the utilization of facial recognition technology.
Newer shields developed with patrol officers in mind are lighter weight and designed to allow officers to shoot while carrying them. They can also easily fit in a patrol car.
As patrol responds to more and more calls formerly reserved for SWAT teams, tools that equip these officers to handle violent incidents are increasingly important.
As exemplified by IACP 2008 held in San Diego in November, IACP tends to be about big ticket items: vehicles, software, video systems. This year's IACP was no exception.
