Ford Motor Company has announced its new 2008 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor will be offered as a flexible fuel vehicle allowing it to operate on E85 ethanol or gasoline. News of the "green" police vehicle came at the Alternative Fuels and Vehicles National Conference in Anaheim, Calif.

The Iowa County (Wis.) Sheriff's Office expects to save between $5,000 and $5,400 annually on fuel costs after converting one cruiser to run on propane autogas.

Force 911 completed the installation of 30 hybrid propane fuel systems for the Jackson County (Ga.) Sheriff's Department. The fuel conversions create a dual fuel system in each vehicle, allowing it to run on traditional gasoline or propane gas.

Georgia Sheriff Adds 30 Hybrid Propane Patrol Vehicles
Force 911 has completed the installation of 30 hybrid propane fuel systems for Jackson County (Ga.) Sheriff's Department. The fuel conversions create a dual fuel system in each vehicle, allowing it to run on traditional gasoline or propane gas. The county was able to purchase the propane fuel systems using seized drug funds.

The move will save the department more than $11,000 in fuel costs and will displace nearly 10 tons of greenhouse gas emissions over a period of three months, according to Alliance Autogas.

N.C. Agency Saves on Fuel Costs With Idle Reduction System, Propane Vehicles
The Raleigh (N.C.) Police Department has saved more than $22,000 through the use of propane autogas in 20 vehicles, and it expects savings of $63,000 through the use of Energy Xtreme Battery Systems anti-idling devices on 29 vehicles.

To prevent explosions that can result from vehicle collisions that rupture fuel tanks, Scottsdale, Ariz.-based FIRE Panel LLC designed a protective shield containing a powdered fire-extinguishing agent, which is mounted on or near a vehicle’s fuel tank. The panel is molded from General Electric’s Noryl resin, allowing the shield to shatter upon significant impact yet maintain its integrity under normal conditions.
