Police said Officer Martin Smith was called to home in the Northeast Heights around 1 p.m. on May 14. When Smith arrived, a 7-month-old baby was unresponsive and the family was distraught. Albuquerque Officer Dies of "Medical Event" in Training

Police officials say officers were gathered for a role-play training when one of them suffered a catastrophic medical event. Officers began performing CPR, police say, and a medical director from the Albuquerque Fire Department also guided additional emergency procedures. The officer was transported to UNMH and police say he succumbed to the medical episode.
