Ask The Expert

Roger Rodriguez

Manager of Image Analytics

Roger served over 20 years with the NYPD, where he spearheaded the NYPD’s first dedicated facial recognition unit. The unit has conducted more than 8,500 facial recognition investigations, with over 3,000 possible matches and approximately 2,000 arrests. Roger’s enhancement techniques are now recognized worldwide and have changed law enforcement’s approach to the utilization of facial recognition technology.

FIVE FROM THE SKY

1. FIVE FROM THE SKY

Five from the sky was a term coppers used at least in LAPD Its the unapproved use of the baton that involves the raised baton crashing down vertically on the suspects head. 100% of the time ending the fight or struggle. most times using both hands. Of course we were not taught this at the academy. Regardless five from the sky dont look good on the nightly news. Only time i ever broke a baton in two pieces. With no hand held radios and my car 200 ft away you did what you had to do.
