VIDEO: Omaha Officer Killed, Suspect Dead

An Omaha police officer and a suspect were shot and killed after a confrontation at North 30th Street and Martin Avenue just before 1 p.m. Wednesday, reports WOWT. The officer has been identified as Kerrie Orozco, 29.

Witnesses reported hearing about 15 gunshots in two bursts and seeing CPR performed on the officer. Officer Orozco was taken to CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center. Another ambulance carried suspect Marcus Wheeler, 26, to the same facility. Both later died.

Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said Wednesday evening that Officer Orozco had been with the department for approximately seven-and-a-half years. She worked in the gang unit, a job she held since 2012. She had a husband, Hector, an 8-year-old stepdaughter, Natalia and a stepson Santiago, who is 6-years-old. She was also the mother of a newborn baby who arrived February 17. Olivia Ruth has been in hospital care since her birth and is set to be released on Thursday.

I am so sick and tired of this.....In one breath i can understand the frustration behind the what some perceived to be the lack of support given to LE, and in the other breath just a pure cry for justice. Criminals who commit crime don't deserve the freedoms they take from others. This Officer lost her life doing her job. Leaving behind her family and job she loved. I'm lost for words and truly sad for the LE family and her family.

WHEN WILL THIS STOP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a tragedy. Even more so for the family who put on a brave face each time their officer went to work, and the baby who will never know her mother.

Rest in Peace sister and healing for family and colleagues.

No words can express how tragic this senseless murder of a police officer, wife and mother is. My prayers are with Kerrie's family and loved ones. May you rest in peace.

I feel the family's and the Omaha Police Department's pain. Being born just south of Omaha and lived the first 43 years of my life in Nebraska with 13 of them in Omaha this hits hard. I know first hand the quality of the Department and the professionalism in which they operate. Rest in peace Kerri and may God embrace your family and the department. At least the perp was also brought to justice and will never harm another human being. His maker can deal with him now.
