One Memphis Police officer was killed and another injured in a drug raid early Friday in the northeast section of the city.

Officers Martoiya Lang, 32, and William Vrooman were struck by gunfire after they entered the home at 1062 Mendenhall Cove at 7:58 a.m. The officers, members of the department's Organzed Crime Unit, were transported to the regional medical center. Officer Lang died, and Officer Vrooman was treated and released, according to an agency spokeswoman.

During the raid, officers returned fire, striking the suspect, who was identified as 21-year-old Traveno Campbell. Officers arrested Willie Braddock, 26, inside the home. Campbell remains in critical condition.

Officer Lang was a nine-year veteran who joined the Organized Crime Unit in June of 2011.

My heart and prayers go out to Officer Lang's family and loved ones. As for the officer that survived, I hope he is not going through survivors guilt. We will never know why, but their is a reason for everything. God Bless you all.
