Calif. Sheriff Honors First Female Deputy

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department proclaimed Feb. 14 as a day honoring the county's first female sheriff's deputy.
The date coincided with Ethel Meares' 100th birthday, reports the San Bernardino Sun.
Meares, a Colton native who now lives in Boise, Idaho, was 43 years old when she was hired by the Sheriff's Department in 1955.
