I am tired of hearing these stories of a firearm "accidentally" discharging. As a firearms instructor I can testify that a firearm will NEVER discharge without someone pulling the trigger. This is a training issue and not an accident.

As a firearms instructor for the US Navy this shocks me. At our command we have over lapping layers of safety to prevent such tragedies. All lot of folks would scoff at the safety precautions we take, but it's all in place to prevent a tragic loss of life like this.

I agree with Tinman 100% Been a range officer and range supervisor over 25 years. Trained everyone from raw recruit to seasoned SWAT operator. Had a few close calls because someone HAD A FINGER ON THE TRIGGER when they should not have. The term is negligent discharge rather then accidential discharge.

As a retired Navy Chief Master-At-Arms, retired California Detective and currently a Correctional Officer in Georgia, this comes as no surprise. Think of every negative stereotype of Georgia law enforcement that you have ever heard and it falls short. Georgia is stuck in the 1940's. They do almost nothing well and Georgia law enforcement (and I use the term very, very loosely) is the worst of the worst. I tried to do the Goergia cop think when I first moved here...couldn't do it. They make Barney Fife look like Elliott Ness.

*thing (damn spell check).
