D.C. Metro Chief Violated Whistleblower Act By Suspending Officer

The command staff of the Metropolitan (D.C.) police department, including Chief Cathy Lanier, violated the district's whistleblower act of 2005, when the department suspended an officer who told city officials about an illegal security deal, the Washington Post reports.
A D.C. Superior Court jury ruled Thursday in favor of Officer Sean McLaughlin, who had, according to the report, "alerted the mayor's office and the D.C. Council that the department had brokered a deal to make officers available to provide security in the area, after the department had rejected requests by McLaughlin and other officers to supply off-duty security in the same neighborhood."
