Hurricane Forces NRA to Cancel Police Championship

Due to Hurricane Katrina’s devastation of the Gulf Coast region, the National Rifle Association has been forced to cancel the 44th Annual National Police Shooting Championship.

Due to Hurrican Katrina’s devastation of the Gulf Coast region, the National Rifle Association has been forced to cancel the 44th Annual National Police Shooting Championship. The tournament had been scheduled to be held Sept. 11 to 15 in Jackson, Miss., which is in the area directly affected by the hurricane.

“This difficult but prudent decision was reached after extended internal discussiongs and consultations with all involved parties,” says Kayne Robinson, executive director of NRA’s general operations and former chief of the Des Moines (Iowa) Police Department.

Nearly 500 competitors from five countries had been expected to compete in the tournament.
