Officers to be Remembered at 16th Annual Wreathlaying Day Ceremony

On Wednesday, October 10, at 1 pm, the NLEOMF will remember our nation's fallen law enforcement officers during the 16th Annual Wreathlaying Day Ceremony. Wreathlaying Day commemorates the October 1991 dedication of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC.This year's ceremony will pay special tribute to 20 officers—from the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia and various federal agencies—who died during the first nine months of this year.

Loaded Gun Found in Tucson Airport Terminal

An airport spokeswoman said authorities had no explanation for how someone managed to get the gun past security. The Transportation Safety Administration is investigating the security breach.

The murdered guards were identified as Joe Alullo, 50, who retired as a sergeant in 2000 after 27 years on the force, and former Police Officer William Widmaier, 65, a 23-year veteran who retired in 1989.

A Los Angeles Fire Department ambulance was stolen last week from a Hollywood medical center. A man was arrested several hours later after driving the emergency vehicle to Paso Robles, some 200 miles away.

Former N.C. Sheriff Accepts Plea Deal on Corruption Charges

Glenn Maynor, former sheriff of Robeson County, N.C., pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges resulting from a federal corruption investigation. More than a dozen of his deputies have also admitted guilt in the the case.
