A Minnesota company is developing a two-shot, .380 ACP pistol that folds up to resemble a smartphone.

Ideal Conceal plans to begin selling the pistol later this year for $395.

"Smartphones are everywhere, so your new pistol will easily blend in with today's environment," the company says on its website. "In its locked position, it will be virtually undetectable because it hides in plain sight."

Just watch, criminals are going to start carrying these so the Police won't see a gun until its too late. I wonder how many people, civilians included, will get killed by these. First a phone that resembles a gun; now a gun that resembles a phone!! What next?

Ok then @ 3/31/2016 6:29 PM

Short of being used by 007, I can't see this being a good idea for general consumption.

This will make the LEO's job easier. Are these people insane?

kevCopAz @ 4/1/2016 7:28 AM

Im 100% pro lawful citizens being armed, but this is ridiculous and nothing more then profit over common sense and public safety! If this is made at all, it should be only allowed for LEO (on duty /UC) use. If this company sells ANY other product, I mean holsters, ammo etc ANYTHING...we and all good citizens should boycott that company and let their own capitalistic "anything for $" mentality kill them thru this age old method of capitalistic protest. I hope if there is any citizen or cop killed with one of these that the company is held liable. Now I am against that with other firearms companies for the obvious reason, this company invited an innocents death due to hiding this lethal weapon. The Federal government should at the least have anyone armed with this have a controlled type of firearm license tag (like fully auto) to at the least regulate the use of this insane weapon.

This is obviously an April Fools Joke..........

Obviously the barrels will ultimately be made to point back towards you, that way if you take a bad selfie and people don't like it on Facebook you can just end it all. What is wrong with people....

There are also ramifications for current CCW v. open carry laws. When this first came out, I informally asked for an opinion from our state OAG as to whether this would be considered a concealed weapon inasmuch as it is not readily recognizable as a firearm. Their unofficial response was that there is no case law to cover it, so they will have to wait until someone gets arrested. The general consensus was that a prosecutor could probably make a good case for it being concealed. Definitely requires an immediate legislative fix in most states. Our current law states that it is not a CW if it is not completely concealed, meaning even a small part of the holster is visible, but this is a whole new ball game.

There is already a gigantic number of instances that officers have shot unarmed suspects because they believe they phone was a gun..... Because in the heat of the moment, if you’re wrong you'd be dead before you knew for sure.

That being said, the majority of officers shot on duty are shot with their own weapon. And one of my local chiefs has a habit of getting within 5 feet of his officers at red lights, waving frantically, and has yet to have one notice him. The lack of situational awareness is almost always the root cause of officer deaths.

This is just another case of much to do about nothing.

That being said I specifically bought a tiny purple gun for concealment just in case my shirt came up. At a quick glance the uneducated public thinks I have a purple cell phone because, you know, evil guns are black or shiny… and don’t look like cell phones.

Just pay attention guys. If the public wanted to out gun us, a full auto is only a trip to the hardware store away.
