Maine Becomes Sixth State to Sign Constitutional Carry Bill

July 10, 2015  |

Maine has officially joined the ranks of five other states recognizing law-abiding citizens' right to bear arms, as Governor Paul Lepage (R) signed the bill into law on Wednesday, reports Buzzpo.

Legislative Document 652 will now allow citizens over the age of 21 to carry a firearm without possessing a government permission slip, better known as a concealed carry permit.

Felons and violent criminals, however, are still prevented from carrying a gun. In order to be in compliance with the new law, the carrier must be legally able to own a gun to carry the gun.

Hopefully those carrying will be able to hit what they are shooting at and have some understanding of deadly force or this could turn out to be a fiasco.

Excellent, I hope the other 45 States come on board. Why does the honest law abiding citizen have to jump through governmental regulations to carry concealed when the dirt bag willo carry any where and any way they can.

Jon Retired LEO, I am more concerned about the criminal dirtbags that are the problem.

A good thing in Maine. I agree with Trigger and Jon, Retired LEO, say. law abiding citizens shouldn't have to jump through hoops or justify it carrying. Yes it is a huge responsibility to carry a firearm and to use in defending one self or others. laws at the state level need to be changed to protect honest citizens that carry from being sued civilly by a defendant's family if the shooting is justified under the appropriate state law / laws. dirt bags carry anywhere anytime, and anti gun pols and groups never mention this . Crooks don't have to register their guns, due to US v. Haynes 1968. Way to Maine Legislature. Good move

Trigger, I understand and agree with you about the dirtbag criminals. I just hope that some good samaritan doesn't get himself and his family sued trying to do the right thing which could happen to any of us. My home state of Idaho is a free carry state and most who carry either way have been through courses like those at Center Target Sports in Post Falls.
