Chicago Mayor Wants to Video Gun Sales

May 29, 2014  |

Chicago could require gun dealers to videotape sales and ban gun stores near schools and parks under Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s latest attempt to heavily regulate firearms sales following a federal court ruling that tossed out the city’s outright ban on gun sales.

In addition, the proposal would require a 72-hour waiting period for purchasing handguns and 24 hours for rifles and shotguns. A dealer would be able to sell only one handgun per month per buyer, and the store records would be subject to quarterly audits to discourage trafficking.

Gun retailers will require special use permits, would only be allowed in areas with a few commercial zoning designations and they would not be allowed within 500 feet of a school or park, according to Janey Rountree, Emanuel’s deputy chief of staff for public safety. Because of those tight rules, gun stores would only be eligible to set up in spots that comprise about 0.5 percent of Chicago’s geographic area, she told the Chicago Tribune.

“Now that we’re required to allow gun sales within the city limits, we do it in a way that does not undermine our public safety goals,” said Emanuel, speaking at the police department’s annual awards ceremony.

What a bunch of effed up rules. Hey mayor im sorry that your butthole hurt about the courts striking down a law that was unconstitutional in the first place. But you don't have to be stupid by making up these dumb rules.

ssc1911 @ 5/29/2014 4:35 PM

They can't violate the Constitution or the Bill of Rights. But they have been doing just that in Chicago for many years for law abiding gun owners.

Rahm Emanuel should be looking at how curb the real violence in Chicago and not videotaping legal gun sales and other restrictions. I'm sure much of these proposals won't pass being constitutional. Yet the Chicago players don't get it. Don't forget Rahm was in Obama's cabinet before he was elected as Mayor of the Corrupt Windy City. They justy don't get it or are just ignorant.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel the same person who hands out ID's to Illegal Aliens who knowingly break US LAWS? The same Juan that ran your Grandma over while driving DUI. Wants to video tape Gun Sales, for Law Abiding citizens?

Well Foreigners who have expired Visas, Illegals, and other Law Breakers. Have been treated much better than Citizens of Illinois and the USA. If Conspiracy Theorists are wrong? Why does Rahm, Obama & Friends try to steal guns away from Americans? Only Nazis, and Communists do this.

The Ruling Class always peeks into peoples private lives, with the NSA, CIA, and FBI. Yet they're not Transparent about who their Puppet Masters are, and who they are long with being Truthful about their Motives! They have to LIE LIE LIE!

Im a Chicago "escapee" and it was the best thing that I ever did (to move to AZ). My family were Chicago PD for multiple generations and I know the way that system works (NOT!) Each time they make gun laws more strict, the crime rate went up, where was the media on that? Perhaps citizens can defend themselves now, even if we have to be video taped like we are the criminal. I wonder if the media will report the number of lawful use of guns that will now happen, or just the few that happen unlawfully or foolishly. What do you think? obviously they will wait for the one bad shoot to report and ignore the countless times a good citizen saves himself or others with the lawful use of a weapon as happens here in Az. The most liberal city in Az with the most Lib PD/Sheriff and the most anti gun area of Az was (SURPRISE) the place that our only mass shooting happened (Tucson) So you get what you want sometimes but don't like the price you pay Libs! I hope the citizens of Chicago arm!

“Now that we’re required to allow gun sales within the city limits, we do it in a way that does not undermine our public safety goals,” You have been doing that yourself in the first place bung for brains. Quit picking on folks that wish to defend themselves and start going after the hoods. Of course if you had to put up with your own rules and did not have tax payer funded bodyguards it would be a different story

Is this how Germany started out before WWII? Geezus.

Ima Leprechaun @ 5/30/2014 10:01 AM

All our criminals use to go to Chicago to buy their loads of weapons because they are so easy to get there. They would buy a couple hundred weapons per month and bring them back and sell them locally. This will slow them down, your in the way of serious crime! The NRA will fight you so crime syndicates can have their weapons en mass.

I am going to set up a prozac stand right here.

Capt. Crunch @ 5/30/2014 10:55 AM

All this does is make business bad for the gun dealers in Chicago, because a person can drive 20 or 30 minutes to another state and buy a firearm.

More malfeasance from an ultra-corrupt administration! No surprises here!

Morning Eagle @ 6/2/2014 4:02 PM

Well this will certainly help reduce crimes committed in Chicago! Everyone knows that criminals wanting to purchase the tools of their trade always go to legitimate firearms dealers but most of them are kind of camera shy so this will really discourage them.
