Detroit Chief Says Armed Civilians Would Reduce Crime Rate

January 03, 2014  |

If more citizens were armed, criminals would think twice about attacking them, Detroit Police Chief James Craig said Thursday.

Urban police chiefs are typically in favor of gun control or reluctant to discuss the issue, but Craig on Thursday was candid about how he's changed his mind.

Craig told the Detroit News he started believing that legal gun owners can deter crime when he became police chief in Portland, Maine, in 2009.

"Coming from California (Craig was on the Los Angeles police force for 28 years), where it takes an act of Congress to get a concealed weapon permit, I got to Maine, where they give out lots of CCWs (carrying concealed weapon permits), and I had a stack of CCW permits I was denying; that was my orientation.

"I changed my orientation real quick. Maine is one of the safest places in America. Clearly, suspects knew that good Americans were armed."

The only thing standing between a "bad person" with a gun is a "good person" with a gun. It doesn't matter if it's Hitler, Stalin or Yours Truly. Between street thugs and the thugs of unjust Governments. I'm sure the French loved the Allies at Normandy, with those "evil guns". The French Resistance used Guns to fight off the Nazis. While I'm against Illegal Immigration. The Mexican people should Arm themselves, and fight their unjust laws. The Cristeros War, was just. But the people of Mexico have forgot their God Given Rights. Instead of fighting with Machetes. They should carry Guns, until they find a Lawful Judge that will let the "Laws" slide so they can fight Drug Lords and Corrupt officials in Gov. I applaud Detroit Police Chief James Craig for his wisdom! He is an untouchable, who stands by his morals and values!

What stops the sociopath from completing his act is fear. Fear of the unknown or known gun carrier who is going to punch his ticket to hell right then and right there. This has an immediate effect on reducing violent criminal activity.

Finally a Chief dares to step out of the PC shadows and tell the truth.

Good for him! FINALLY, a big city Chief that acts like a CHIEF (leader of men) rather than a namby pamby politician. Got some brass ones on this guy.

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly with Police Chief James Craig, he is a man of integrity and a man that knows how to control crime. He truly understands the meaning of his oath of office. He, unlike some, understands and abides by the Constitution of the United States of America, to protect against all enemies "Foreign and Domestic." He takes his oath of office seriously. His approach is outstanding and should be adhered to by ALL law enforcement agencies Nation Wide. Not the "Politically Correct" approach taken by a few, that seems to hide behind any small technicality they can dream up. He, like many other Chiefs of Police and Sheriffs across America, knows an "Unconstitutional" law, that Gun Grabbing legislatures are passing attempting to remove the guns required to defend our selves and to disarm the Americans for strictly political expedience. He understands the Constitution and Millions of Patriotic Americans support Chief Craig and others like him. We support them wholeheartedly!
