The Sanford (Fla.) Police Department reversed its plan to return George Zimmerman's handgun following a directive from the FBI.

The move signals that the U.S. Department of Justice is moving forward with a civil rights investigation into the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin, reports the Orlando Sentinel.

The FBI instructed the Sanford PD to keep Zimmerman's 9mm Kel-Tec PF-9.

Zimmerman was acquited of murder charges Saturday by a six-member jury, a decision that has been followed by violent protests in Los Angeles and Oakland.

It seems to me that the DOJ doesn't think the "Justice" system works. Every time someone goes through the "Justice" system and the outcome is not what they think it should be then they have to hit those individuals with a Mickey Mouse civil rights trial. That is a whole twist on the double jeopardy laws. They should be looking at all the protester for civil rights violations. These people have no clue as to what went on in the court room and yet they are still blocking traffic and such violating hundreds of peoples right to free movement.

This current government has turned this country into a banana republic.

Looks like Obama, had his hands in this one. Obama, should be impeached for abuse of color of authority.

Bob-O @ 7/22/2013 4:38 PM

I suppose the bureau has an order from a federal district judge authorizing this move. But I've got a C-note that says they don't.

Semper fidelis.

Well, it don't stink in Denmark anymore. All the stench is from DC and the thugs in charge. Talk about screwing up this country. Time is upon us to impeach the liar and his butt buddys, along with some inside time. How long are the American people going to stand for this total trashing of our Constitution and Justice System? Threatening a person who has been judged innocent by a jury of his peers is flat out wrong! And keep race out of it. Blues, Stay Safe.

Zimmerman was not a racist. Trayvon Martin was. He used a racial term. That needs to be published every day. When has it become ok for young black males to assault someone and not pay the consequences? When has it become ok for the US Attorney to take sides? We are told not to think that young black males are dangerous when according to reports from the attorney general show young black males commit over 70 percent of the most violent crimes. Until someone in the black community decides this is not ok, all people need to be careful around groups of young black males. Zimmerman was found not guilty by a group of women who were suppose to convict Zimmerman because they were mothers. That backfired. Leave Zimmerman alone. Why are blacks in Calif. looting a Walmart there? Don't lessen the gun protection laws, make them stronger. As long as I can, I will protect myself and family from violence that I did not create and did not deserve.

The verdict for Zimmerman was a no brainier. They jury saw the evidence and voted accordingly. There was no racism here to begin with. That major TV network that edited the voice recording, that is being sued by Zimmerman, made it a racial issue. I believe the network will lose this lawsuit. Obama when he was a Senator voted for the stand your ground laws. Although Zimmerman didn't use stand your ground as a defense, he used self defense. When that young man decided to strike Zimmerman he committed a crime. Assault, last I heard was a criminal offense. The young man had time to retreat and instead chose to assault, as it was said the suspicious looking cracker, and smashed his head into the concrete.
So it seems when people don't like the verdict, they riot and call on the US government for civil rights violations. I lived through this nonsense in the 60s and on and now its back again. I'm so tired of seeing this dominate my boob tube news every evening, I just stopped watching the so called instigators that call themselves the news media.

The state prosecution of Zimmerman was frivolous and without any basis in law or fact. It's shameful. There is a good argument that the prosecutors concealed discovery and even worse, exculpatory discovery, from the defense, and also breached its duty of candor to the tribunal. The feds had already concluded that there was no racial bias in Zimmerman's interest in Martin's presence and actions. What do they think will change this outcome? Loudly proclaiming the same lies does change the lack of foundation for the prosecution.
Further, for pete's sake: the pistol is not evidence. It is not admissible as it is not relevant. There is no matter that could be before the court that would be made more or less probable by the pistol; it is not controverted that the shot was fired from that pistol. Basic evidence law. Any reasonably literate attorney who knows how to find ER401 - ER403 ought to know better.

Motorjock @ 7/22/2013 6:41 PM

Who the hell does the FBI think they are telling a not guilty defendant that he can!t have his weapon back. When have they become jury and executioner. They should be ashamed of themselves. They're caving into political pressure. Stop kissing the radicals asses.

We thought we were fighting the Reds keeping them above the 38th?! Bollocks!

Dirk Samson @ 7/22/2013 7:48 PM

The jury got it right, thank heaven, despite the incredible political pressure and an anti-Zimmerman judge's heavy finger on the scales of justice.

The FBI extensively investigated this case at the beginning, and there was absolutely no justification for a federal prosecution. However, Obama, eager to play the race card, may well order a federal persecution...and I do mean PERsecution.

It's hard to say whether Trayvon's supporters are worse lowlifes than Trayvon. But they certainly are lowlifes; look at the violence, racist attacks, and numerous threats against Zimmerman and his family.

Poor Zimmerman is reportedly wearing body armor. I hope he has obtained a high-quality pistol as well. But in lights of the threats against him, he would be justified in packing an Israeli Tavor rifle.

bob retired leo @ 7/22/2013 9:23 PM

We need another J.Edgar Hoover who didn't take crap from anyone. He had dirt on every politician and used it against them. If he went down they all would go with him. Tha'ts how he kept his job and took no guff..

Greg O'Hara @ 7/23/2013 12:20 AM

What about Zimmerman's right to bear arms? That's a constituional right and now that he has been found "not guilty" why doesn't he fight to get his firearm back. It's his property and he deserves to have it back. As for the feds, I am in agreement with those who say the justice system is broken and what's needed is a top to bottom "enema" of "special interest law enforcement".

tbguns (retired LEO) @ 7/23/2013 2:58 AM

The race card is all they have/had to play. Look at the evidence. If Trayvon Martin was any other color, we would not be here. I fought crime and criminals for 25 years. I didn't care what color the criminals were. What is being done to Zimmerman is very, very wrong.

Bob @ VA @ 7/23/2013 5:48 AM

Sanford has no obligation to comply with Holder's request unless backed by a court order. That would require evidence that doesn't exist. They could return the firearm today and that would be the end of it. Someone in Sanford needs to grow a spine and stand up to the racists in DC.

PD @ 7/23/2013 7:10 AM

Holder should read the 10th amendment:

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Followed promptly by the second amendment:

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

The Author Brad Thor has made an offer to Mr. Zimmerman to buy him ANY gun he wants and ammo!

Digital Moose @ 7/23/2013 7:38 AM

This is story that has been created by this administration as a diversion for their lack of leadership and performance.

Duke Holtzman @ 7/23/2013 8:57 AM

Here we go again! When the jury finds you NOT GUILTY the DOJ says you are GUILTY and THEY WILL PROVE IT ANYWAY! Lets stand up for Zimmerman and show the true side of Martin! A drug dealing racist thug!!

pup @ 7/23/2013 11:09 AM

My question is why doesn't DOJ investigate civil rights violation when Blacks KILL Blacks? Why don't the Blacks riot then? Having been investiagted before by FBI, it sucks when they try to blame you when it's the bad guy who dictates the situation. Once again, I'm glad Blacks aren't racist....

NJmotorcop @ 7/25/2013 8:24 AM

Looks like the Obama regime's ultra-corrupt DOJ is going to persecute Zimmerman just like they persecuted the 4 cops in the Rodney King case.

tiny43 @ 8/5/2013 6:11 AM

Ok so I understand the technicals on how the DOJ CAN go about filing the civil rights charges and what types of cases back in the day where all white jury's acquitted people that there was little if any doubt of guilt usually with the blessing of the prosecutor. Those days are gone and so should this practice. Its two bites at the same apple and Double Jeopardy under the US Constitution should apply.
