Calif. Senators Call for Reinstatement of Assault Weapons Ban

July 25, 2012  |

California Sens. Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein hope to renew the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.

In an interview with the Chronicle's Politics blogger, Feinstein said the rampage shooting in Aurora, Colo., should rekindle talk about the ban, which would likely be quashed by the National Rifle Association.

"Weapons of war do not belong on our streets, plain and simple," Feinstein told Carolyn Lochhead. "I am considering how I might strengthen the Assault Weapons Ban that expired in 2004 and how best to move forward with that bill."

Feinstein's weapons ban was signed by President Clinton in 1994 but expired in 2004 and has not been renewed.

No,, Boxer And Feinstein. This law won't help. What will help If we do bring back the death penalty in California and get rid of the criminals who do the killing. Show them on tv just like you show the onesided "Police Beatings" on all channels. CALIFORNIA has enough weapon laws! Enforce the ones we have! Keep the crooks in prison! DO NOT place them on Parole or Probation like you have been! Over and Over again in Los Angeles we are re-arresting crooks who have been paroled early. They have been fighting with us or leading us on vehicle pursuits or foot chases. Many are armed and should have never been paroled or placed on probation. But You two and Gov. "I know everything" Brown will not take steps to fund more prisons. I hope all three of you leave office real soon. It will give some living in California a breath of fresh air.

Keep safe and fightin the crime my American LEO's,

32+ years active

Los Angeles area.

westcoastleo is 100% right. We need to get tough on these criminals and toss them in prison for good. Most scumbag criminals walking the streets on parole or probation are going to commit more crimes. We need severe punishment not rehabilitation, it doesn't work for most and not worth the time and effort. Stuff these jerks in a cell and keep society safe.

Tom Ret @ 7/26/2012 8:31 PM

As usual, both Boxer and Feinstein are wrong. The thugs will get the guns irrespective of any laws against them. Those who are willing to commit murder or other violent felonies are not worried about violating some gun law in the process.

[email protected] @ 7/26/2012 8:57 PM

I've got a better idea! Lets ban moronic politicians who live behind armed guards and are just plain dumb. Look how well the gun laws work Mexico Norte. These twoare the real life dumb & dumber.

chuck @ 7/26/2012 8:58 PM

Barbara boxer, your misinformed and very stupid

Lea @ 7/26/2012 9:04 PM

I have to agree with westcoastleo, This law won't help. Black market guns will become more valueable and more of an issue for law enforcement..personally, I think they should repeal the ban on open carry here in CA...As Tom Ret. points out the thugs will always have access to guns....James Holmes and other's like him, who have no priors and cross over into acting out their fantasies cannot be forcasted as Mary Ellen O'Toole (FBI Retired-Behavioral Science Unit) stated, based on his high functioning ability and intelligence.. there are others like him out there with 135+ IQ's and can do just as much damage, so banning guns is not the answer...

Tom Ret @ 7/26/2012 9:41 PM

If the feds don't secure our southern border, the border state residents will face at an increasing rate, some of those so called weapons of war from the drug cartels that our own government supplied via the fast and furious operation. I guess in the California liberal's mind, it is ok if the drug gangs who come across our porous southern border, have the guns as long as the US citizens don't.

Billy @ 7/26/2012 10:21 PM

No law does a darn bit of good if it's not enforced. Problem is we are laying off police and some small cities have even disbanded their forces, so exactly who will take action on any law that Boxwe and Feinstein can come up with? There are already 10,000+ gun laws on the books nation-wide; how much good have they done. That's easy...NONE.

Boo Boxer @ 7/26/2012 10:58 PM

Last I checked MURDER was illegal too. More laws won't do anything but STOP law abiding citizens and make it easier for the crooks to take advantage of law abiding citizens.

Jack Betz @ 7/27/2012 1:17 AM

That law was a worthless feel good peice of trash the first.

Frank @ 7/27/2012 4:42 AM

The state is overrun with illegals, drug cartels have set-up shop with the local gangs, the cities and towns and even the state is bankrupt and the best you two senators can do is run your mouth for an Assault Weapons Ban. Your kidding ! Get off your asses and fix the more pressing issues.

Frank @ 7/27/2012 5:09 AM

Do you know they are building more and more prisons all over the USA. This has been kept quiet for a longtime. Wonder why!

DPB @ 7/27/2012 5:37 AM

Diane and Barb, May I point out the movie theater was a Gun Free Zone. I guess the PHD whom committed the murders (oh Murder is against the law, who knew?) could not read the picture with a gun and a red in color "not allowed" bar through it?

Frank, they are not prisons, they are concentration camps for us after the election, unless we get off our asses and vote the bastards out!

Jim VG @ 7/27/2012 2:00 PM

Of course these two want to reinstate the "assault weapon" gun ban. I'm preaching to the choir but what they want to ban are not assault weapons but semi-auto rifles. They just look like military weapons so let's ban them 'cause they are ugly. (Too bad we can't do that to Feinstein and Boxer) I grew up in CA and now that I've retired wtih over 30 years of police service, I can't wait until I move out of here. I've tried changing the state by voting and working within the system. This will never work here. The entire state is controlled by San Francisco and Los Angeles. Both are "Sanctuary Cities" that spend more money on and care more about ILLEGAL aliens than US Citizens. It's time to cut my losses, take my taxes and move out to let them rot in thier own liberal filth.

[email protected] @ 7/27/2012 2:17 PM

Jim VG, Arizona welcomes you! We may not be perfect but we ARE Americans. Please consider my state for your next 20. Yes, we do have a few insipid pols but they are few and far between.

Rick @ 7/27/2012 3:07 PM

Let's not forget that it was Feinstein that said if she could get a 51 vote on the floor of the senate to ban ALL firearms, that she'd do it. Let's remember also that she and Boxer both have CCW permits, but they want to ban firearms for the rest of us. The term Hypocrite comes to mind.

David in Alabama @ 7/27/2012 9:21 PM

Everyone's comments are spot on. Vote them out in November or the country is going to tank. Westcoastleo, is exactly right.

Curt @ 8/1/2012 5:25 PM

Hey! Back off you guys! How dare you question our senators like that! They are clearly smarter than us and they know what's best for us. I'm sure they have our best interests at heart. We don't need guns, the senators and the government will protect us!

Curt @ 8/1/2012 5:29 PM

Okay, on a more realistic note, why is this news? What else would we expect from these two corrupt, malfeaseant, and subversive whores.
