Calif. Lawmakers Seek Open Carry Ban
September 09, 2011
|
California's state Senate approved a bill that would ban the open carry of unloaded handguns in a state with an already restrictive system for concealed carry.
Assembly Bill 144, by Democrat Assemblyman Anthony Portantino targets the "open carry" movement, which is marked by gatherings of people displaying their handguns in public places to protest gun-control laws, reports the Sacramento Bee.
The bill still needs Gov. Jerry Brown's approve before becoming law. Not suprisingly, it contains language excempting peace officers, military gatherings, gun shows and hunting.

The bill bans unloaded handguns from being openly carried. It does not ban rifles or shotguns.
