Convicted child molester Dean Arthur Schwartzmiller has again been arrested on child molestation charges in San Jose, Calif. Police now believe he may have abused thousands more children over three decades.
Although Schwartzmiller, 63, has been arrested at least nine times for molesting boys and spent a total of 12 years in prison in several states, he’s largely escaped attention because he used various aliases and never registered as a sex offender.
The current investigation began when two young teens in San Jose brought charges against Schwartzmiller. Police searched his home and found what appear to be records of his serial child abuse dating back at least 35 years.
In his home, officers found notebooks that listed 36,000 boys’ first names under different categories such as “blond boys” and “cute boys” along with codes that San Jose PD Lt. Scott Cornfield says may indicate how he abused the children.
Schwartzmiller is currently being held without bail.
